What's Happening Cheney
This is a blog site about Cheney
We always get the news from Cheney Free Press and as advent reader, I look forward to every Thursday to read it.
However, wouldn't it be neat to have another site on what's beneath the news.
Ta-da! Here is that site. Allan Gainer is the writer. He will write about those stories and events that you wont see in the news.
About our Writer
Allan served as a US Navy Journalist for eight years. He is a Desert Storm Vet and current Quartermaster of Cheney's Veterans of Foreign Wars. He currently works as Senior Multimedia Sales Executive for The Spokesman-Review.
Allan also wrote two novels, Fire in the Fourth Dimension in 2001 and about to release, Tattered House.
Allan served as Cheney Mayor for four years from 2006 to 2009 and understands Cheney government very well.
Allan has been married to his one love, Trish since 1985 and they raised two great children, Jessica and Nicholas, who are making their mark in society, today.
Backbone of Our Community
Owning a business in Cheney is challenging for a number of reasons. Allan and Trish became business owners in 2004 with Tree of Knowledge Bookstore. When online sales were less than their wholesale costs, they had to find another business. Today, they have a horse boarding facility, Triple G Ranch. Allan understands business and what it takes to do business in Cheney. He holds a Masters in Business Management. There are challenges right now that are hindering businesses and he wants to help take down some of these barriers. Business is what pays for our police, fire, public works and other areas of government. We need to attract businesses to our community and help it grow. Also, businesses offer jobs for our residents so we don't have to drive back and forth from Spokane or beyond.
Having Fun in Cheney
Allan enjoys being involved with festive events in Cheney such as the announcer at Cheney Rodeo Parade every year for the past five years. He also brings the music with his DJ sound system for May-fest. You may catch him as a character in one of the Christmas radio dramas through Stage West. He also becomes an auctioneer for West Plains Angels as he helps raise money for those who need help in our community like the food bank. You may also see Allan at Yokes giving out poppies for Veterans as they raise money to help our veterans who need help. Allan is also Quartermaster of Cheney VFW.
Cheneyite since high school
Allan graduated from Cheney High in 1980 and in 1985 graduated from Eastern Washington University. After marring Trish, they both left to see the world as Allan served in the US Navy as a broadcast journalist. Allan lived in Bermuda, Hawaii and during Desert Shield served on a tiny island in the Indian Ocean called Diego Garcia. After leaving the Navy, Allan learned the textbook business and in 2004 Allan and Trish opened up Tree of Knowledge Bookstore in Downtown Cheney. During this time, Allan served as Cheney Mayor for four years. After eight years, Amazon took most of their customers, so they closed the doors. Allan went into selling insurance and recently have found a home in media advertising at Spokesman Review.
